Course Description/Outline/Objectives:
Jesus commissioned His disciples to “Go into all the world and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:18-20)”
Such a commission depends not upon our age, gender, nor stage in life. It simply requires that one be willing and able to “go.” In Discipleship Studies, we will seek to prepare high-school students to be impactful disciples of Jesus and effective disciple-makers for Jesus, by studying the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ.
By unpacking the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we will go along with Jesus and His disciples and become “eyewitnesses” of the things that He did while He walked the earth for a period of about three years. Students will not only learn about Jesus, but also learn how to become His disciples and, in turn, make disciples themselves.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this class students will be able to articulate the mission of Jesus, examine the lifestyle that He promoted (in comparison to those of the modern culture - such as identity, materialism, social media influence, peer pressure), understand His methodology in making disciples of people, share the gospel with a lost world, and make disciples of their own peer group.
The class will seek to be interactive and challenging. Work outside of the classroom will include research projects, Bible reading, textbook reading, quizzes, and a class project, which will serve as the mid-term and final exam.
