Shelly Stanley has enjoyed music from a very young age and many of her favorite teachers and most impactful adults were musicians in her life. Shelly was trained in piano from the age of 8, competing nationally yearly and performing multiple times a year. Shelly started receiving vocal training at age 15 and sang in the elite choir at her high school, Emory and Henry College, MTSU and then as an adult in church praise teams. Shelly has taught private piano lessons as well as music classes at Discipleship Tutorial's Co-op. She currently plays keyboard and sings each Sunday on her church's praise team.

Course Description/Outline/Objectives:
Music Theory is a class for musicians to hone their musical abilities and learn more of the building blocks of music. In this course we will cover notes, rhythms, chords, intervals, and so much more. We will strive to put this in a practical setting with shape notes and Nashville number system. We will study both classical and contemporary music. A basic level of music knowledge is recommended. (Music Appreciation will be offered next year and is a class for musicians or non-musicians to fulfill a fine arts credit at the high school level- no previous musical knowledge is needed for Music Appreciation.)
